You can meet up with a local guide and take a tour of the riverbanks and key excavated ruins. During the tour, you will learn about the site's sanctification as the place of Jesus' baptism by the Vatican and a visit by Pope John Paul II in 2000. You will also have the opportunity to see remnants of Roman and Byzantine churches, caves, wells, and baptismal pools, and experience a powerful sense of spirituality.
As you walk, your guide will provide information on the archaeological evidence supporting the belief that this location was where John the Baptist lived, preached, and performed baptisms. Learn more about this significant Christian pilgrimage site, which is considered holy in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam due to its association with the Prophet Elijah's ascension to heaven. Finally, meet up with your driver and return to Amman, concluding the tour with a drop-off at your hotel.
You can explore the attractions of the Dead Sea by visiting a private beach area and have the opportunity to swim in its waters, relax on the beach, and enjoy the unique surroundings. Alternatively, you have the option to upgrade your tour and gain access to a hotel with additional facilities such as outdoor swimming pools and a spa offering Dead Sea Mud Treatments at an extra cost.
The Dead Sea is a remarkable place and the world's first natural spa. It is famous for the Biblical story of Sodom and Gomorra being turned into salt. There are no fish in the Dead Sea. It is a stunning and impressive destination in Jordan. The water is calm and shines brightly under the sun. It has a high concentration of salt and minerals, which gives it therapeutic properties and provides a unique swimming experience.
